Alain Welliver

Software engineer and builder in West Philadelphia. I'm exploring how technology can augment human capacity and make everyday people's lives better.

I just graduated from Penn, where I studied Networked and Social Systems Engineering — Penn's computer science degree with a heavier dose of machine learning, probability, and the math of complex systems. I'm trying to live a life characterized by service to humanity. In my career, that has drawn me toward AI safety and physical AI: transit technology, education technology, and other places where software has to meet the real world.

Most recently I built an automated incident triage system at Amazon Web Services, taught Penn's graduate machine learning course, and grew a builder community at Penn with Anthropic. You can see things I've made, read what I've written, or find out where I show up in Philadelphia.

Now

Right now I'm building FlowCoach, a macOS menu-bar app that notices when you drift from what you meant to be working on. Outside of that I'm running, making music, and volunteering with a junior youth program in Cobbs Creek. For the longer version, see the Now page.
